Switching to SDL Trados 2011 SP1

Following the release of SDL Trados 2011 SP1, another product of evolution and a follower of Studio 2009, I will implement this new version of the Studio into my translation agency process as of February 1st, 2012.

I have been working with the Studio on a regular basis for about 2 years. Concurrently with the Studio, I am still working with the “obsolete” SDL Trados 2007, as this is the primary version of this CAT tool for many of my clients. On the other hand, I still appreciate another “type of convenience”, this older version offers compared to the Studio.

Until now, I have translated all projects, where clients did not require CAT tools, using SDL Trados 2007. During January, I converted all of my master translation memories and from February I will start working with the Studio exclusively with the exception of cases, when my customer will explicitly ask for the “regular” Trados.

One thing of concern is the compatibility between 2009 and 2011 versions of the Studio. Based on the experience with compatibility problems between Studio 2009 and 2009 SP1, I hope that there will be no problems for my clients still using Studio 2009, when they receive my jobs exported from Studio 2011.
