My computer has recently started behaving in a bit weird way, freezing sometimes due to issues with the graphic adapter driver. I ran once into a situation, when after such freezing, SDL Trados Studio (2011) failed to start showing a strange message informing about a problem while loading general plugins. Here is what you have to do to restore a proper function of the Studio without needing to re-install the whole suite.
After some research and trial and error approach, I found out that the error is caused by one (or more) of the following files:
that are located in this folder: C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\10.0.0.0
Note: Replace user_name with the actual folder name.
To keep your user settings, start troubleshooting by deleting the plugincache.xml file. Once removed, try to start the SDL Trados Studio. If the issue was caused by this file, the Studio will create a new one automatically and resumes running properly including user settings.
If the Studio fails to start again, you may try to delete the remaining two files (I suggest to make backup copies of these files). Unfortunately, in this case you will lose your user settings, but the Studio should now start and run normally.
Should the Studio fail again, you may have to re-install the suite.
Thanks a bunch!
This helped a lot!
Thanks a lot!
This is still great help for Studio 15!
I had to reinstall the whole suite, but it seems to work now!
If you rename your user settings and then overwrite the new user settings or – even better – export the settings in advance and re-import them – your don’t lose any user settings!
