Need to Convert SDLXLIFF into TTX? I will help you...

In addition to my translation activities in English-to-Czech language pair, I am handling quite a deal of projects in other pairs, especially in German-to-Czech one. Despite some of my colleagues, who work on these projects for me, have the latest Trados Studio, some are still working with the obsolete SDL Trados. Until now, I had to prepare projects for these colleagues by copying the source text from the Studio into a normal Word file and after getting translation, I had to import the resulting TM into the Trados Studio and go line by line applying the correct translation. However, this was quite time-consuming work, as tags are not copied this way. Not any more...

Recently, I obtained Swordfish III software, which allows to convert XLIFF files into TTX. First of all, if you are working with the Trados Studio, before exporting into TTX you have to convert the SDLXLIFF into a "normal" XLIFF (as these are not same). This is handled by opening the Trados file in Swordfish and saving it as XLIFF. Then just select the save as TTX option and you are done. Resulting TTX file is translated in TagEditor, and translated file needs to be converted back into SDLXLIFF in Swordfish III again. All tags should be maintained properly.

Not all of you probably have the Swordfish software. If you need to help with this, just drop me an e-mail with your SDLXLIFF file, and I will send you the TTX for translation. You may export TM obtained when translating TTX into TXT or TMX, import into Studio's TM and go through the Studio project (in this case, it is not necessary to re-convert the TTX back into XLIFF and SDLXLIFF in Swordfish.

This saves me quite a lot of time and pain.
